SMART TEXTILE INKS

During my final university project "Evolving Camouflage" I took an interest in smart textiles; the term given to new textile innovations for future design. Examples of this include E-textiles, for instance where electricity is combined with clothing for lighting, and photochromic inks that change colour in UV light. I chose to use hydrochromic and thermochromic inks in my collection and below are some videos of they work. the hydrochromic white ink reacts to water and turns transparent, revealing a new angle to the design beneath. The sea green thermochromic ink turns luminous green the hotter it becomes. These were appropriate for my intended application as I envisioned garments and designs that react to the natural changing environments they are used in.
